Karla Starr's career began when she was eight years old when she won her third-grade science fair with a presentation about the differences between boys' and girls' brains and was chosen to represent her grade in a local writing conference. She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers and a recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists' Best Science/Health award. She has written for O, The Atlantic, Slate, Popular Science, and The Guardian, and she has been on CBS Sunday Morning as an expert on luck.
